Ashley Skolrud: April Newsletter

Happy April, and thank you for subscribing early so you get to see my VERY FIRST newsletter! I am so excited to include everyone in my author journey and to let you guys get to know me better. I have a lot to talk about this month, so let’s get started!

What have I been up to in March?

This month has been SO exciting with the triple release of the last three Wizards of Wildfell Hall books. Percy, Aileia, and Stormie’s stories have been a long time coming, and releasing them all on the same day just felt right. Plus, it means I have officially released my first completed series! This series was written because I wanted my students to fall in love with reading, and I wrote them as novellas on purpose – most tweens and teens need to work on their reading stamina! I am so proud of this series, and I hope that everyone loves these characters as much as I do.

In addition, I have a few different WIPs that I’ve been working on. I’m in the middle of my second draft of Playlists & Prose – my contemporary rockstar romance. However, the more I work on it, the more I hate the title, so I have a feeling that’s going to change again before the book is officially out. With summer break around the corner, I should be able to get this to my editor hopefully by early June, with hopes of it coming out later this year.

I’ve also had some people ask about Sidekick’s sequel…but I’m not revealing the title yet. What I am going to say is that it’s my summer break project. I have the entire thing outlined (and I cried over the outline and my brain is going off-script to make it worse, so be prepared, nobody is safe), and I can just tell that I am going to need to write this draft in one go with no interruptions. Expect more news on Sidekicks: The Sequel over the next few months!

Happy Indie Bookstore Day!

It’s a perfect day for a book haul! Sidekicks is available at TWO of my local indie bookstores, as well as through Bookshop.org – where you can set it to support your own local bookstore! Make sure to go out and support these amazing small businesses!

Book I Loved this Month:

Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe

I know I’m late to the Daggermouth party; it had been sitting on my TBR for MONTHS! But I can now say that it fully lives up to the hype. I laughed, I gasped, I cried. And that ending will stay with me for a LONG TIME.

It was truly a masterclass in the dystopian genre. I am ready and waiting for Python, because I can just sense it’s going to be even better than this one.

You can preorder the trad edition of Daggermouth HERE.

Please note: I was not paid to promote Daggermouth; it just deserves all the hype it can get.

Book Spotlight: Trials and Tyranny

Johannes Lindholm is determined to make this his year.

He’s the Captain of the Fiendive team, he’s (mostly) acing all his classes, and Aileia Bourreau has actually looked in his direction more than once. It’s the start of a perfect school year. Until his father and the rest of Celeonia’s ruling council are kidnapped, and those leading the insurrection put the entirety of Wildfell Hall on a magical lockdown.

Johannes is determined to rescue his father, but putting together a team like that isn’t easy. There are people inside the school who are working with the enemy, and one wrong move can lead to trusting the wrong person…

Trials and Tyranny is the first book in my YA novella series: The Wizards of Wildfell Hall. It follows a group of teens as they have to break out of their magic school to go save the world. It’s available HERE in paperback, ebook, and Kindle Unlimited.

Upcoming Events:

None…Yet! I have a few applications out, and I am hoping to be able to announce some signings and events soon!

Sloth Fact of the Month:

Sloths are fantastic swimmers!

And before anyone asks why there are sloth facts in my newsletter, they’re my favorite animal, and therefore I’m going to use this platform to gush about them. Also, meet Barnacle – one of the sloths at my local aquarium!

That’s all for this month! I’m currently keeping these newsletters at once a month – I don’t want to burn myself out OR make you guys sick of me. So tune in next month, same Ash-Time, same Ash-Channel. (I know most people won’t get that reference, but I’m not sorry!)

XOXO ~ Ash

Welcome to the blogosphere! I’ve been blogging forever and doing a newsletter. But I recently started my author site and blog, so I don’t have many posts there yet either.

Ashley Skolrud

When Ashley Skolrud was in high school, her classmates predicted she would become an author. Her love of storytelling has shaped her entire life, starting with handwritten stories she wrote in her school’s cafeteria which eventually led to her getting an MFA in Creative Writing from Lindenwood University. Her love of magic and fairy tales has inspired all of her writings, and she longs to share her love of fantasy with everyone who crosses her path. When she’s not creating her own worlds, she’s teaching teenagers to fall in love with books as an English teacher.
